Club Méditerranée was the brainchild of Gérard Blitz, a former Resistant and Olympic medallist. When Europe was still struggling to recover from the devastation of the Second World War, he set up the Club to promote a series of values, principles and habits that we now call "sustainable development".

With envirnomental and social issues becoming progressively tougher, in 2005 Club Méditerranée decided to organise and federate its action through the creation of a specific Sustainable Development Divison. Its objective: to intensify efforts at the grass roots level, to ensure that the right action is implemented across the board on a long-term basis.
