Recycling waste when the facilities exist

Waste management is part of the environmental impact of a Resort. Club Med introduces recycling systems whenever possible, when the appropriate infrastructure exists in the host country. The Club also strives to limit the production of waste, such as plastic bottles, part of a policy introduced in 2009. A study revealing the quantity of waste produced at Opio in 2006 resulted in concrete measures being introduced, and contributed to the Resort's gaining its Eco certification.

Encouraging recycling initiatives

At Cap Skirring in Senegal, Club Med was behind the introduction of a whole system of waste treatment and recycling, including a centre where waste from the Club Med and the surrounding area is stored and recycled. Financed by the European hotels, restaurants and residents, the system benefits the local population, who get their rubbish collected free of charge. The centre has created 12 new jobs, and over 90% of the rubbish and waste collected is either recycled or turned into organic compost.

Recycling the Brochures

When some brochures are remaining at the end of the season, they are entierely recycled.
