The capital of Heilongjiang province and the political, cultural and economic centre of north-east China, Harbin is a well-known historic town, with a thriving tourist industry. It has traces of the history and culture of various Chinese ethnic groups and non-Chinese cultures. This explains the presence of western architecture of all schools, including Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant churches, hence its nickname “the little Paris of the East”. Travel time: a 3-hour bus ride - Beijing, which is a 1 hour 50 minute flight from Club Med Resort. The capital of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing (or Peking) is home to famous world heritage monuments such as the Forbidden City and the Temple of the Sky. Beijing hosted the 2008 Olympic Games Shanghai, which is a 2 hour 50 minute flight from Club Med. The most densely-populated city in China and one of the largest cities in the world, it is rapidly rivaling New York, Paris and London in terms of cultural attraction. It was home to the 2010 Universal Exhibition. Guangzhou is a 4 hour 10 minute flight from Club Med. This city is the cradle of Chinese gastronomy, and the people nibble throughout the day, from breakfast through to dinner. Guangzhou hosted the 16th Asian Games in November 2010.
