Fun for the family with something for everyone

We had a wonderful stay at Club Med Bintan. It was our 2nd Club Med after hitting Club Med Tomamu in January, and so our expectations were high. The G.O.’s were all wonderful across the entire resort from Mini Club through to Sports, Swim and Circus.

The restaurant and bar staff were standouts - always so kind and accomodating, particularly to our two children who probably consumed twice their weight in rainbow bubble teas and ice cream. Massive shout out to the bar staff who always made drinks with a smile - Tohid, William, Shar, Hilda, Agung (our kids have rated your drinks infinitely higher than Tomamu). Also must shout out to the brilliant Dendy who was our housekeeper and did the most amazing towel art that brought my joy to our kids and us, always a nice to surprise to see what he would make and whilst we didn’t get our room cleaned each day he always offered us any bottles or water or towel refresh if needed.

For parents:
There are loads for the kids to do, for reference our children are 8-11 and whilst they didn’t attend Mini Club and Kids Club all day it was handy for them to drop into the activities they wanted to and sign themselves out. Also, our children both made some new friends who they were able to coordinate their own schedule with - but note some of the watersports teens aged 14 and under need parent participation.

The private beach and water activities were great, we had peace of mind that the kids could swim with their friends in calm and netted area, and that they could do water sports like kyaking, paddle boarding and snorkelling with gentle waves.

If with children snorkelling in the morning was better, we saw more fish.

Excursions:
You have private drivers for the excursions. The excursions to the fireflies was fun since was our first time seeing them, as was the trip around the island to see Blue Lake and some other attractions beyond the resort. Our guide was awesome and made our kids appreciate the history of the island and the local culture.

Rooms:
The rooms and some parts of the common areas such as the theatre felt quite dated. We also had issues with the toilet in one room and leaking roof in the interconnecting room our kids were in. Maintenance staff were quick to fix. The rooms are in dire need for an update and once the renovations are complete it will elevate the experience.

Make sure you heed the warnings about the monkeys - one of our kids left a balacony door ajar and we had monkeys come in and take some fruit and eat a packet of cup noodles!

Spa:
Had quite possibly the best massage of my life here with Riana! I like super hard pressure with my massages and yet was still so blissed out afterwards 10/10.

Tips:

  • Pack your own sunscreen, unlike other resorts they didn’t offer any
  • Pack some card games for the kids, they do have a handful of communal games but not that great of a selection
  • Request room away from the construction part of the resort
  • Washer and dryer available but 70,000IDR for each use respectively
  • Bring your own laundry bag and/or wet bag as resort only has a paper bag in the room
  • Note that kids under 14 need parent participation for watersports activities, even in a group you can’t just have 1 responsible person…otherwise encourage your teens to join Teens Club for water activities!
  • Family cooking class was fun! Definitely book it in if you can
  • Skip the coffee at the breakfast buffet and have real espresso coffee at The Panorama which opens at 9am. Also the coffee infused cocktails there are amazing!
  • And the swim test prior to snorkelling is legit! LOL but good news is you only need to do it once for your whole trip

Best Recomendation

We were recommended this resort by my wife's friend. They had noted that the resort facilities are fantastic for families.

The staff were wonderful, friendly, and polite. From housekeeping, through to the dining servers, lifeguards, reception, maintenance crew, as well as gardeners, everyone (and I mean everyone) we saw greeted us with a smile.
We had a very relaxing time, with zero fuss, and we felt very well taken care of. Our days were spent eating, swimming, and just generally having a great time.
Many thanks to Sentha and the entire team for the warm hospitality. I would also like to express my special appreciation to Tiara, Yayuk, Winaya, Leo, Harry, the nurse, and the doctor for their attentive care and kindness.
