We came to Club Med Marbella expecting the atmosphere of a traditional Club Med resort, but it feels more like a hotel operating under the Club Med concept than a genuine Club Med village. Rather than a sprawling resort, it is essentially one large hotel building with some Club Med-style activities.
The highlight of the stay was definitely the tennis and padel team. They are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional, and they really create the warm, social atmosphere that Club Med is known for.
Unfortunately, one experience significantly affected my impression. During a football match, I sat down on a chair that had been left slightly out of place in the aisle. I had not moved the chair myself, yet I was loudly reprimanded by the acting Co-Chef de Village instead of being politely asked to move it back into place. A calm and respectful approach would have been much more appropriate and in keeping with the level of hospitality one expects from Club Med.
The food was acceptable but not exceptional. The buffet seemed heavily focused on pork dishes, which limited the options for guests who do not eat pork. The beverage selection at meals was also rather limited, mainly consisting of water, orange or apple juice, and house wines, with very few other included choices.
The main pool is pleasant but relatively small for a property of this size. The indoor pool is a nice, quiet place to relax. The Zen Pool, however, is located quite a distance from the main hotel, requiring a fairly long walk, and once there, it is also smaller and less impressive than the Zen Pools found at many other Club Med resorts.
Overall, the experience has some strong points but it lacks the unique resort atmosphere and consistently high standard of hospitality that many guests associate with a true Club Med village.
If you love tennis and padel, this resort is for you. Daily classes and tournaments. People were friendly and we made some friends while there. Driving range on site as well. Keeps you busy during the day. Mini club staff was responsive and responsible but there were too many kids for the activities available. Maybe because late June they haven’t staffed up yet for summer? but there weren’t enough coaches for the kids tennis and padel so half the kids had to wait off on the side in the sun and switch halfway through. They did have an additional 2 coaches working once we rolled into July right before we left. So maybe a seasonal issue. Kids loved the circus, that was really great.
If your kids are willing to go to MiniClub, the staff at the spa are talented at the massage and facials.. very relaxing. They also have a little hammam and relaxation area in the spa. We also had a car and went on day trips to Rhonda and to Malaga. Both were nice. Marbella and Mijas Pueblo were ok half day trips but wouldn’t do again.
We had a great family time. 2 highlights: at the Padel, ask for Martin, he’s really amazing. Fantastic coach and really kind. And at the Baby/Petit Club ask for Clara, she’s a super star. So kind, soft and professional with our little one.
We faced 2 issues, not happy with the cleaning and service in the room and too many seminars are organised in this club which ´kills’ the holiday vibe.
